ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (March 22, 2007) --- XM Radio is bringing the award winning and multi-platinum selling band Los Lobos to the 2007 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg for a special concert following the Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg on Saturday, March 31.
Presented by XM, the Los Lobos concert will begin 30 minutes following the checkered flag on the American Le Mans Series race on Saturday evening. The race starts at 5 p.m. and is expected to be completed around 7:45 p.m. The concert will get under way at approximately 8:15 p.m. and will be held in the Honda Plaza inside the race circuit.
The East Los Angeles rock band Los Lobos released their most recent album “The Town and the City” in 2006. Since they began as Los Lobos Del Este Los Angeles in 1973, they have evolved into a respected artistic entity searching for themes and topics that are an interpretive pulse of our times. Using musical molds built on the blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin and their own Mexican-American heritage, Los Lobos is renowned around the globe for their energetic live performances and their conscience-raising songs and thought-provoking lyrics.
With David Hidalgo on vocals/guitar/accordion, Conrad Lozano on bass/vocals, Louie Pérez on drums/guitar, Cesar Rosas on guitar/bajo sexto/vocals, and Steve Berlin on saxophone/keyboards, the band first hit the music charts with the 1984 release of “How Will the Wolf Survive” and hit No. 1 with a remake of the Ritchie Valens classic, La Bamba in 1988.
The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the first street-circuit race on the 2007 IndyCar Series schedule, will be run on a 1.8-mile, 14-turn course through the streets of St. Petersburg on Sunday, April 1.
