On the second try for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, defending series champion Josef Newgarden picked up his second win of the season on Monday afternoon at Barber Motorsports Park. The victory marked the ninth of Newgarden’s career, with three coming at Barber - the site of his first career win.

Races are won and lost on pit road, and the 2018 Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix was no exception as defending series champion Josef Newgarden utilizes late-race pit strategy to take the win at at ISM Raceway Saturday night.

Even if you’re hardcore fan, you might just need a spotters guide to sort out all of the rookies on the 2018 IndyCar series grid. At time of writing, 10 different rookies will attempt to qualify and race this year. With so many to profile, we here at #TrackTalk decided to break out our rookie preview into two parts.
If this is a new era for the Verizon IndyCar Series, it certainly made a strong first impression.
